Maybe your mom wouldn't get you a Game Boy. Or your grandparents needed a convenient last-minute birthday present. Or maybe you were planning a long car trip. If any of these situations were true for you in the 1990s, you likely ended up with a portable electronic game.
Electronic games were fairly cheap and plentiful in that era. They differed from what we think of as "video games" (such as handheld consoles) in that most of them were dedicated to just one game and they offered a reduced or simplified gaming experience, usually limited by the design of an LCD or LED display. That kept costs low and made most of them easy to pick up and play.
In the slides ahead, we'll take a look at a handful of fun and interesting electronic handheld and portables from the 1990s (including one absolute dog). I owned all of these back then, so I can personally vouch for their existence. This list is by no means exhaustive, of course; there are plenty of classics I left out. But that's what you, my friends, are here for: to complete the story. Nostalgia is most fun when it's shared.
